Why is olive oil said to be good for you?

An interesting article about the polyphenols found in olive oil was published in Olive Oil Times (dated August 31, 2020).

Olive polyphenols are found in olive fruits and leaves and are responsible for the bitter and pungent taste of the oil. They are most abundant in young, green fruits. The reason olive oil is gaining attention for being "good for the body" is due to these polyphenols, which are one of its components.

In December 2015, Professor Mary Flynn and Professor Selina Wang of the University of California, Davis, published in their paper "Olive Oil as Medicine" that "consuming at least two tablespoons of Extra Virgin Olive Oil daily can improve high blood pressure," based on various studies.

This time, an article focused on polyphenols announced that consuming 4 tablespoons of Extra Virgin Olive Oil daily with a phenol content of 360 mg per liter (polyphenol means "many" polyphenols) was actually effective in improving high blood pressure. Chemical analysis has shown that Laconiko's 2022 Extra Virgin Olive Oil contains 540 mg of phenol per liter, and Laconiko Olio Nuovo contains 1300 mg of phenol per liter.

While it may be difficult to consume olive oil daily, it might be easier to consume it by drizzling it instead of dressing or adding it to your morning smoothie. If you have a favorite olive oil, pay attention to its chemical analysis results!
