Our Story
History

Laconiko is a fourth-generation olive farm located in Laconia, Greece. The name "Laconiko" comes from the Greek word "laconic," meaning concise and clear. For over 100 years since 1890, we have accumulated deep knowledge and experience in cultivation and oil pressing through traditions and history passed down through generations.

Laconia was home to the famous ancient Greek city-state of Sparta, and the Evrotas River, where Spartan armies rigorously trained, still flows nearby. Spartan military education was extremely strict, giving rise to the term "Spartan education." It is said that olives were cultivated in this region as early as that era. Perhaps ancient Spartans also endured their harsh training by consuming olives.

Laconiko's farm is located within a natural protected area designated by the European Union (EU). Development is restricted in this area to conserve ecology and the environment, and there are no factories nearby that emit harmful or polluting substances. Not only do we not use harmful pesticides and fertilizers ourselves, but the entire surrounding area consists of unpolluted, nutrient-rich soil. Because it's something to be ingested, we want to provide safe, secure, and nutritious products. With this in mind, we cultivate this fertile land, carefully tending to it day after day.

Furthermore, a Mediterranean climate with dry summers and rainy winters is essential for growing high-quality olives. Olives, being hard-leaved trees, can tolerate summer droughts, but if temperatures do not drop in winter, they will not bear full fruit. Conversely, if there is too much rain in summer, the water content of the fruit increases, and the polyphenols in the oil decrease. Laconia, where the farm is located, is on the southernmost tip of mainland Greece and has a typical Mediterranean climate with dry, low-rainfall summers and warm temperatures year-round. From this land, which is most suitable for olive cultivation, we offer you high-purity olive oil, a culmination of the farm's history and love.

Laconiko History
Development

Laconiko was born from a fourth-generation olive farm that has been passed down since 1890. While oil pressing methods have gradually changed with technological advancements, the rich flavor created by the diligent efforts of producers with over 100 years of history, and their passion for olive oil, have remained unchanged from then until now. Our olive oil is characterized by its rich green banana aroma, high polyphenol content, and a smooth finish reminiscent of matcha. As a trusted supplier, we have also supplied oil to well-known Italian and Spanish manufacturers for many years.

In 2008, the olive farm, which had been continuously striving to provide high-quality olive oil, was taken over by the current fourth-generation head, who established the private brand Laconiko. Our wish is to deliver olive oil extracted from olives cultivated with love to more people. Currently, our products are distributed not only in the EU but also sold in the United States and Canada.

Of course, all of this stems from our confidence in our production techniques. While 100% single-varietal olive oil is ideal, it is a gift from nature, and even when cultivated in the same way, weather conditions can cause variations in flavor. For example, rain can change the water content of the fruit, thereby affecting the flavor—olives are such delicate plants. Under these conditions, maintaining quality and flavor and consistently providing high-quality olive oil year after year is not easy. The reason we can do it is due to the keen eye and skill cultivated by the producers' many years of experience—this is something that only Laconiko, an olive farm with over 100 years of history, can achieve.

There are things that change with the times, and there are things that we steadfastly uphold. We cherish the value of both as we continue to cultivate our olive oil today.

Awards
Awards and Recognition

When Laconiko was founded in 2008, the current head, then the son of an unknown olive farmer, resolved to "seriously aim to be the best in the world." Everyone around him said "it's impossible," but he didn't give up. The following year, in 2009, Laconiko's challenge began with its first entry into an olive oil competition.

As a result of his unwavering persistence and continued challenges, 10 years later, in 2018, Laconiko had grown to win the Gold Award at "BEST OF GREECE," an olive oil evaluation event in Greece, the birthplace of olive oil. We also received media coverage from Forbes and Olive Time, and in 2019, we won a total of 12 awards in various world competitions, ranking 59th in the world that year.

By 2020, we had accumulated 51 gold, 31 silver, and 5 bronze awards, totaling 87 accolades, and our world ranking soared to 2nd place. The dream of "being the best in the world," which people once said was impossible, is getting closer. Laconiko will continue to challenge ourselves without compromise, offering you even better olive oil.
